On Wednesday our boys football team went to the North West Essex 7 a-side Tournament at Lyons Hall School. The team played brilliantly winning the group stage and also winning their semi-final to get to the final of the competition, a fantastic achievement when every school present had already won their local regional tournament to qualify for this competition. Our skilful team won their first match 2- 0 with Johnny Eldridge coming out of goal to make a great header up the pitch. During the games the boys played really well showing great team spirit and respect despite some unexpected rule changes. The pouring rain did not deter them in the finals with Blake Sage scoring a great goal into the top corner from the halfway line. The score was 2 –2 and the match went into extra time. Dramatically Lyons Hall scored in the last 2 minutes of extra time to make the final score 3 –2 to Lyons Hall. Ralph Oliver commented on the excitement of the afternoon saying “It was a great afternoon of competitive football.”
Today our girls football team are also at Lyons Hall for the North West Essex Finals having already won the Witham and District Girls 7 a-side competition with Emily Chandler saying that they “are striving to win all the way.” Well done Howbridge!
