5 a-side Champions

Last week our football team played in the 5 a-side tournament at New Rickstones Academy. They began with a confident win of 1-0 against St. Andrews when Ralph Oliver scored in the bottom corner. The team then continued this success with a 3—0 win against Cressing, a 2—0 win against Hatfield Peveral and a staggering 6-0 win against Elm Hall. Throughout the group stage Joseph Hodgson was able to move swiftly setting up goals with Jake Rose scoring 6 goals overall and enabling Howbridge to play in the finals against Elm Hall.

The final was nail biting particularly as we went 1 – 0 down to Elm Hall at first but Jake once again came to the forefront scoring 2 great goals. Elm Hall tried to claw back by scoring another goal but then Ralph scored again making it a safe win of 4 – 2 to Howbridge.

We spoke to Ralph Oliver after the final who said, “I thought at the start of the game that we weren’t switched on but when Jake scored it boosted us to strive to win. Jake was really man of the match as he helped us at the start to get through to the finals. I felt really proud of winning and came back with a huge grin on my face.”
