On Wednesday year 5 visited Epping Forest for a field trip to understand the nature and formation of rivers.
“We began by going into the forest and studying two different types of soil; one was sandy and the other one was quite boggy. The boggy one was covering the source of the river. Next we had a discussion and made predictions about the depth and flow of the river upstream and downstream; in other words how fast or slow the river is flowing and whether it’s deeper or shallow in particular parts. After lunch the fun began when we went into the river and measured the width and flow; which was 9 secs and 26 milliseconds. It was a brilliant day and it really helped us to understand rivers.”
